Hi Chris, Round columns are easy to do. You just need to remember to keep the long edge of your trowel parallel to the column, and apply the material on the bias (diagonally). Polish it the same as a flat surface, just spray it with water and trowel. Just keep your trowel parallel to the column and work on the bias. It takes a little practice but it is easily mastered. I'm not sure what you mean about veining. Venetian plaster doesn't have veins. Traditionally it is applied in several colors which gives a mottled effect. I like to use at least two colors on the basecoat and a third color for the finish. either different shades of the same color or complementary colors. This can be highlighted and manipulated to give a very subtle appearance of veins, however this is considerably more difficult, and to lengthy a process to go into here. A good way to practice is to get a sonotube and cut it into 2-3 ft. lengths and fill the tube with plaster. When it sets cut away the sonotube and practice on the plaster piece. If you go to our homepage at masterofplaster.com and click on the see us at sweets.com logo, then click on the product section and go to Venetian plaster you can see a really cool blue column that Mirage Studios did. Hope this helps. Mike
