Hey, Kevin - that's what I did on the first coat, per the instructions for MOP - let it set for 15-20 minutes and then spritz and trowel to smooth out ridges. I think (hope) the second coat will fill in any ridged places in the first coat. I had good luck getting smooth finishes on the sample boards, so have to believe I will on the wall, too. It's just so much easier on a small surface. It looks better, too, now that everything is completely dry. When it's wet and the light bounces off the ridges they look 10 times bigger! BTW - my husband thought I had new light fixtures installed in the ceiling because it was so much brighter in the hallway when he came up the stairs the other evening from work! He could not believe the difference in the appearance of the hallway with just one basecoat of MOP (the lizard-butt beige latex on the walls just sucked the light out of that space)!
